Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux 2011 6x75cl bottle image

Oliver Carter's pick

Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux 2011 6x75cl

Côte de Beaune reds (excepting Corton) can unfairly, be a little less highly regarded than those in the Côte de Nuits. The reward, a more reasonable cost, un-inflated by rarity and fashion. As a lover of great Burgundies, I want celebratory occasions to fill every hour of the day and like to extend a really special meal at home with an older Burgundy. Couchereaux 2011 drunk with a selection of ewe and goat cheese seems to slow time and lengthen fun conversation. This wine is a treat. Côte de Beaune reds mature sooner than those of the Côte de Nuits, at between five to seven years, the tannins are soft and the wine light and elegant. What a wonderful way to spoil everyone now and then in the roaring twenties, without hiding the bank statement
